Walker County Jail completes installation of inmate health monitors
WALKER COUNTY, Ala. — The Walker County Sheriff Nick Smith announced Tuesday the completion of the second phase of installing additional health monitors in the county jail.
Smith said this phase brings the total number of devices to 27.
The monitors track the heart rate and respiratory rate of inmates, according to Smith.
"We appreciate the commission's approval and the technology involved in this project," said Smith.
The installation follows the Walker County Commission's approval last February for the implementation of inmate monitoring technology developed by Reassurance Solutions.
The radar-based system uses cutting-edge technology to monitor the heart rates and respiration of inmates in their cells. The system is connected to a computer monitor in the booking area and can be placed in both the booking area and control rooms.
